About the Northern Route Working Group

We are making the case for a better railway in the South West.

The Northern Route Working group is comprised of rail industry managers, engineers and consultants as well as academics and other stakeholders in the South West to investigate whether there is a credible case for reopening the former railway from Exeter to Plymouth via Okehampton and Tavistock.

Starting formally in January 2020, work has been undertaken voluntarily and is nearing Stage One completion, where we will be presenting our findings and recommendations for the railway and other transport links. Amongst those recommendations will be how to progress the railway from a concept to a working reality which promises to benefit the whole region.
